Made the biggest mistake ever in FM

I signed this really Belgium good attacking mid in my 5th season in my current save. I loaned him out but he was so good there I recalled him to play out the second half of the year. However, his potential had dipped from 5* to 3.5* in the space of less than a year, and he wanted a move away because Man Utd and Arsenal declared interest (they never made an offer though). He ended up at mid table Championship Middlesbrough after he didn't attend any of my pre-season training sessions. Guess the mercenary personality makes you do weird things. I had a buy back clause on him but when I scouted him again he was terrible so I left him.

Seven years later, guess who's lining up against me in the CL final? Him, of course. I vaguely recognised him and checked his attributes. Though his technicals aren't the best (his best is 15 dribbling), he's got incredible mentals. Somehow despite not getting a single season above a 7.0 average rating at Middlesbrough (who couldn't even finish above 10th the time he was there), he got a move to Lazio and then Bayern for over £60 million. I didn't get a penny (always remember sell on percentages people).

Anyway, my team lost 3-2 to Bayern in the final, with that bloody regen scoring a brace. Great.

I have a 24 year old world class winger valued at 91 mil, with a release clause of 124 mil. Barca wants him but won't offer more than 80 mil so I declined. I leave the club in the summer and he gets sold to Chelsea for 61 mil.
