Academy Island | Episode 0 | The Plan Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:01 AM PDT Imagine an alternate reality in which, instead of merely taking a much-needed holiday at the end of the 18/19 season, David Silva decided to embark on the journey that will (hopefully) transpire to be the greatest project the football world has ever seen. He decided to buy his hometown club: UD Las Palmas. Las Palmas is not your average Spanish club. It is based on the island of Gran Canaria in the Spanish-owned Canary Islands, and is one of the only two major clubs located in the Canaries, the other being its arch-rival, CD Tenerife, based on the island of its namesake. Almost 1000 miles from the Spanish mainland, the Canaries are much closer to Africa than they are to Europe. Aside from being a pain in the arse for basically every other team in the league for away games, being based in such a remote island has many advantages to exploit:
The long-term end goal of this save is a humble one: to establish Las Palmas as the greatest club in the world, overtaking the giants Real Madrid and Barca to become the one Spanish powerhouse. The way I (or David, I should say) will choose to achieve this is by utilising islands with similar characteristics from across Europe to their advantages, eventually creating a Red Bull-inspired progression system in which young players jet off to various exotic islands as they progress as footballers. Heavy inspiration for this series is drawn from the Coca-Cola save, and the writeup style will be inspired by the legendary Millwall series Besides the obvious first island of Gran Canaria, the primary targets for expansion I have identified are Madeira (owned by Portugal) and Crete (owned by Greece). Liga NOS is slightly worse than LaLiga and the Greek SuperLeague a further step down than that. This should create a nice progression system, mirroring the Red Bull system. Furthermore, all 3 of these islands have similarly Mediterranean-Subtropical climates and equally beautiful scenery, effective infrastructure, anything else you could wish for as a young professional. In other words, there shouldn't be much need to convince the WAGs. Additionally, the squad registration rules of the top divisions in the countries these 3 clubs are part of can be used to our advantage. Las Palmas is in Spain. Spain happens to have one of the quickest citizenship attainments at just 2 years for players of Ibero-American descent. This is essentially all of Latin America, so we should have no real troubles with EU restrictions for our inevitable hordes of Brazilian regens. Las Palmas also happens to have a B team n the Segunda B (third tier), which is high enough up the pyramid that the base game can load it as playable. So while the main team will be the flagship club, the crowning jewel of the island system where only the very best go, the B team can be used to give South American players valuable and worthwhile play time (especially after promotion to LaLiga123, the second tier), where after just 2 years they will be EU citizens and so will not contribute to any non-EU player limits (such as in LaLiga) and can be sold for a pretty penny. This is essentially the "Leipzig". Additionally, for the purpose of squad registration rules in LaLiga, all of Europe (including those not in the EU) and all African and Caribbean nations are treated as EU members! The Madeiran team is where squad registration rules will really come into their own. Portuguese clubs in Liga NOS, unlike in lower leagues, are allowed huge squads and are not required to field ANY homegrown players or even Portuguese players at all. There is also essentially no limits on loans. This means any players that could be deemed of a good enough ability to survive in Liga NOS can be farmed there for amazing match experience. Additionally, the 5 year naturalisation window is respectable. For example, if I pick up an 18-year-old African regen and play him in Madeira for 5 years, he will be an EU citizen by age 23, ripe for flogging to top European clubs or integrating into Las Palmas. Lastly, the Cretian team. The league is of a lower quality than the Spanish and Portuguese ones, however it is the perfect level for those youngsters who aren't quite ready for top flight Portuguese football and the league can be easily dominated a la Salzburg. Additionally, Turkey, Russia, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Serbia are all considered EU so won't count towards the 5 non-EU limit So, South Americans -> Las Palmas B team Africans/Asians/others -> Madeira Weaker players -> Greece Further to these 3 core clubs, other opportunities for expansion include Corsica, Sardinia, various Scandinavian islands and even possible expansion outside Europe. I will add these clubs to the island empire by adding additional managers, however I won't just be doing this arbitrarily and as and when is convenient for me. No, in the interest of realism I will attempt to obtain a realistic estimate of how much it would cost for a takeover of a club and deduct this from the bank balance of Las Palmas. So obviously if I want to expand the empire I'll need a chunk of cash. Speaking of cash brings me nicely to the question on everyone's mind (probably): would David Silva be able to afford this initial takeover. A quick google gives his estimated net worth at $57 million. In 2018, fat Ronaldo shelled out €30m to become owner of Real Valladolid, a club of similar, perhaps even marginally higher, stature. Therefore I do not think it to be completely outside the realm of possibility that if David was extremely committed to the cause and sold off some assets he could purchase the club. To reflect this new ownership I will begin by giving Las Palmas a small cash injection. Nothing major, just something to get us off the ground and to reflect what would happen in real-life circumstances. However, after this there will be no cheating and no use of the in-game editor except for things necessary to the challenge to function, such as taking money out of the budget for a club purchase. We will rely solely on funds generated by the club, primarily from player sales. Additionally, in the sprint of the challenge of this save, I will introduce the extra restriction of ONLY signing scout-recommended players! This should be pretty easy once my armies of scout descend on all corners of the world. There is just one thing I need before I embark on this project, this journey, this complete upheaval of the footballing institution. Help. As I am planning on [link] [comments]

Just won my first (non-savescummed) league title Posted: 24 Jun 2020 08:10 PM PDT As the title said. I'm new to FM20, but have been playing FM since 13. Decided it was time to upgrade from 16. Wanted to give a journeyman career a try and see that FC Cincinnati have an open spot. I apply, and just barely finish above bottom place by the end of the half season that I had them. Then this season comes about, we start playing in a tiki taka 433 with a dm, and my boys start bossing it. Siem de Jong, Haris Medunjanin and my new striker Manu Appeh are creating and scoring for fun, while Tyton in goal has set a record for the most clean sheets. On the final day of the season, Atlanta United were ahead in the Supporters Shield by 1 point, and we're going up against the 1st team in the west (Montreal). I'm nervous, but then we end up smashing Montreal 4-0 and Atlanta draws. I know I haven't yet technically won the MLS, but considering that playoffs are dumb, I consider this my first title that I have save scummed at least once to get. Hopefully my boys can take one (two since we have a semi final to win as well) last steps and win it all. [link] [comments]
Achieved three promotions in a row with Crewe Alexandra using this formation Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:46 PM PDT Initially made this tactic in my Chelsea save because I was getting bored since I could buy everyone and wanted to make it more 'interesting' by using an asymmetric tactic with unconventional roles. Decided to try it with Crewe Alexandra and we achieved three promotions in a row (Runaway champions in League 1 and 2 and finished second in the Championship). In the three years I only purchased one player, making use of mainly free transfers and loans. We had the lowest wages in the Champinship, just over half the wages of the second lowest. If anyone wants the full tactic, I can share in the comments :) [link] [comments]
