    Erling Haaland

My word. This lad is something else.

    (FM20, obvs)

After 18 months in game I can't believe no-one has snapped him up. I'm doing OK with Newcastle but Joelinton just isn't cutting it. So I go in for Haaland, putting up £20m with another £20m over 3 years and they just accept it. I added that he join in the summer. £86m release fee on his 5-year deal.

Right from the off he is just slamming them in. Never scores an ordinary goal. Blazes past anyone trying to stop him. IIRC he had 7 in 4, then up to 13 in 9, carries on like this, and in the first season he scores his 49th goal from the spot to win the Euro League final.

    Pressing Forward in a 4-1-2-3.

Strange caveat: He is never above 'Poor' morale the entire time. I forgot to sign a friend for him and he kicked off about it on the eve of the 1st Prem game, losing confidence in me and requesting a transfer before playing a game. I said no, obviously, and he went on to tear up every game he played in.

    50 games, 49 goals.

Player's Player, Player's Young Player, European Golden Boot, Fan's Player of The Year, you get the idea. You can also imagine the list of his suitors - basically looks like the Champions League quarter final fixtures. A bid comes in from Bayern, over his value but under his release fee. I reject it.

Erling is sorely disappointed, asks to talk about it. Tells me in no uncertain terms that they can offer considerably more money. This is not what I expected as I thought it would be about playing for a bigger club, so I ask him how much he wants, as you do. His response is that he knows we don't have the resources. I say fine but they'll have to pay the release fee. £86m.

This is where it takes a turn. He asserts that we both know the release fee is a joke (!) and that I need to be realistic... wtf!? You signed it mate. Should of read it. At this point I am canny gutted as there is no replacing this lad. The meeting ends poorly with no resolution.

Interest in Erling fades. I'm not quite sure why, but this suits us just fine. He is unhappy, but he's been unhappy the entire time. The season starts and he hits the ground running, signing a new contract in October with a year extension and a £108m release fee. He fails to show up in a few games here and there but stacks in 39 goals as we finish 3rd and win.....

The Champions League. I'm not even lying. The power of this man is insane. We've got a good team but it's not like I haven't still got Jamaal Lascelles. He elevated the entire club to the next level and I struggle to remember such a singular effort in my 25+ years of enjoying this game. After such success I knew that this summer I couldn't possibly hope to keep him. The usual suspects line up once more and it's Barca that activate his clause, and now I have £170m to find a striker like Erling Braut Haaland.

La Liga - land of the stacked deck

La Liga - land of the stacked deck

Though I've been FMing since CM1 in various bursts (more recently since FM16) - I've never played a managed La Liga team; so I changed that and took up the reigns of S. Gijon in FM19.

To cut a long story short, I got promod in the first season, and the unshamedly wheeled and dealed to sign a team that would become half the U21 Argentinian squad and squeaked the title in my third season up.

I noticed when I finished 4th in one season how paltry the prize money was - but not to worry, I am sure the prize for climbing the summit and toppling the giants would be worth it!

What a fail! 5m pounds for winning the title?! Sponsorships barely moving upwards...

    https://preview.redd.it/g7abmkfl4nb41.jpg?width=230&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a0043eaca5f2ddfd26fe01f09b4188cb6462f2e

So now I have all my wonderkids demanding 4-5x increases on their contracts - failing which their release clauses are already below par - and my Board has generously decided to add a lousy 5000 seats to the stadium at a cost 2x my transfer budget of 9m. Like wtf.

I miss being cut a 100m pound check for winning the Bundesliga...

So I think I'll have to make the heavy hearted decision to resign - let my handiwork fall to wrack and ruin and find a post elsewhere where it's not a con job by the megaclubs!
