Just wanted to share my best achievment so far on FM 2020 (5th season)
Just your casual sub GK banging in 2 goals and an assist. It was in one match btw.
Finally had that FM "ah ha" moment
*Exhales through gritted teeth*
Youth recruitment has just come in, guess what has happened to the ONLY player I felt was worth signing.

Stats going down while the player has the form of his life
I think he's a bargain for 7.5 million
So many wonder kids I don't even bother differentiating them by their names anymore.
Does anyone know what this dotted line means?

I am pretty new to FM.

At first, I was drawn to the legitimately impressive business simulation/squad-building systems. I am an economist and analytic obsessive; while FM does not mirror reality (I would call it reality adjacent), it has a breadth unrivaled by almost any commercial game release since Capitalism and its own logic and rules to learn (how to exploit). But I finally had that "ah ha" moment where you realize how vested you are in your team and how rewarding it is to do something right and have it pay off.

I started an FM19 game with Newcastle and scrapped my way to the Europa League with 53 points (!) in my first season. Buoyed team depth over summer/winter transfer windows, destroyed the group stage after a lucky draw (injury-riddled Villareal and teams from Poland/Azerbaijan). Draw against... Bayern Munich.

Round 1 is away, and I train an ultra-defensive tactic weeks in advance of the fixture (4-1-4-1 flat with just the striker attacking). Bayern bends me but does not break me, and I'm thrilled to make it out level. Home fixture I start the same, but watch 20-30 mins of the game to try find the vulnerabilities. Bayern keeps pushing more and more guys up front, and my defense somehow holds.

My players are nearly dead by 75 mins and I know I will concede in extra time, so I make adjust to move Almiron (playing as supporting AP) to Shadow striker and change the DLP next to him from defensive to support, along with a couple other minor tweaks. After a couple of extremely close chances for Bayern, we get the ball from Bayern on the edge of our own box in the 89th min. Almiron is streaking away immediately and is served the ball. He stays away from the defender trailing him and draws the defender guarding the striker. One smooth through ball and clean finish later, and we've somehow conquered the giants.

I know it's something everybody here has likely felt time after time after playing FM for years, but wow is that first rush amazing.
