    REGISTA VS DLP

    Posted: 16 Nov 2019 07:54 AM PST

Sharing the following piece - had read this some time ago for FM14 IIRC.. it's just the best description..

Imagine your DLP to be Carrick, and Regista - Pirlo.

    1) What is the mentality of the Regista compared to the DLP?

DLP: "I stay back here, and when the ball comes to me, I pass it somewhere good. Sometimes the results are super-spiffy."

Regista: "You, striker, don't know what to do with the ball? You give it to me! You, wingback, have run out of space with another one of your stupid runs? You give it to me! Central defender, the ball, seriously?! Give it to me! Now listen, peons: you go where I tell you to, and I will give you the ball to score and we can end this little charade against this clearly inferior team and be enjoying cappucinos by teatime."

    2) What is the difference in Creative Freedom?

DLP: "Oh, that's more for the wingers, Wazza & Robin. I'm just here to make their jobs easier."

Regista: "Creative Freedom? Yes, I will have it, ALL OF IT. No, none for you, Mr. False 9 or whatever you're calling yourself these days."

    3) Is there a difference in closing down? Tackling?

DLP: "Ah, something I can talk about. Most interesting part of the game, to be honest, as I need to strike a balance between being too aggressive but also being able to break up attacking movement effectively."

Regista: "Zzzzzz, oh, I'm sorry, were you talking? I have people to do this work for me."

    4) What is the difference between the two roles in terms of RFD, RWB, TTB, Crossing, roaming, holding the ball?

DLP: "Not sure I understand the question. I intercept the ball, or receive it from my teammates, and look to play a good pass up the pitch to the more creative types. It's not rocket surgery."

Regista: "You do realize we're talking about football here, right, little man? Bother me not with your terminology, football is an epic saga and I am its composer and conductor, if I may mix metaphors (and I may)."

    5) Is there a difference in passing length settings?

DLP: "Whatever it takes, as long as it's reasonably safe."

Regista: "Yes, these passing lengths. I will have ALL OF THEM."

An injury and lack of squad depth meant i had to recall Danny Drinkwater in the Winter Transfer Window, his first start back in a Chelsea shirt...

I spent two hours today working out the overalls of my players in FM19. 3rd in La Liga and this team is looking good!

Title checks out. Spend an amazing 4 million on players and went with a total moneyball team that fields mostly loan players.

Thought that it was pretty funny that I win my first ever title without basically spending anything.

Sometimes I feel like the game might be a little bit biased in favour of the Premier League.

    Nearly constant late goals

    Posted: 16 Nov 2019 05:45 PM PST

In almost every game I play, I give up late goals. 80th minute or later in the last 9 games, all to cost me a win or a draw.

I have tried going ultra-defensive and putting 10 players behind the ball, putting on extra defenders, touchline shouts to tighten up, work harder, etc. and literally nothing helps.

Has anyone had this problem, and any success with addressing this? Between this and the issues with players missing nearly every one-on-one chance, while continuing to score 30+ yard rockets from outside the box at a far better rate than one-on-one chances, it makes the game sort of not fun.

I made an impulsive decision and now I need to vent

    Posted: 16 Nov 2019 08:23 PM PST

Hi. So I was managing argentinian club Banfield, got a Libertadores and a couple of league titles, as well as some other league cups and stuff. Things were going great and I thought it was time for a bigger challenge.

Now, throughout the 2021/22 season I had been always keeping an eye on big teams sacking their manager, hoping to apply for one that would interest me, but unfortunately no big team appeared available. Until december of said season, in which Borussia Dortmund sacked their manager. Now, they weren't really the most appealing side to me but since I was fairly tired of waiting for an opportunity I went to the interview and told them that I would like to join after the season ends. Now, the season just finished and I joined them. Turns out, now its the start of the new season and Kovac got fired from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid sacked their manager, Man City told Pep to fuck off and Arsenal said they had enough good ebenings with Emery.

So now Im stuck at Borussia, who btw got 6th place last season so Im in Europa, with a terrible aging squad and star players who want to leave for CL football. If only I hadnt been so impulsive and just waited a few more months without making my decision, I could be managing a team thats far more appealing to me and is actually playing CL / has a better squad overall.

And yes, I know Dortmund is a big team and all, and it could be a good challenge to bring them to the top. its just that I could be somewhere better and while I could also be doing worse, im not entirely happy with the career path I chose

So apparently I pissed off Pep Guardiola...

    Posted: 16 Nov 2019 08:15 AM PST

It's November 2019. Manchester United (managed by myself) is preparing to clash against the Premier League favorites Manchester City, who are managed by the legendary Pep Guardiola. I, as a new manager, have colossal respect for Pep, and I view him as one of the giants of European football.

It's press conference time. I am asked a flurry of questions, including my opinions on Pep's style of possession-based football. I respond that it's a solid tactic but we will be doing everything we can to exploit it and work around it. I thought this was an assertive but respective response. Apparently Pep didn't.

Pep was later asked in his press conference what he thoughts about my comments. He responded by saying the following...

I don't want to waste my breath talking about [AbeFromanSK] to be honest. He showed what an unprofessional person he is and I have no desire to stoop to his level.

Nonetheless, I carried on to the game. November 22nd, 2019. The big game. We come in with our heads held high, but unfortunately Pep's untouchable and uncriticize-able tactic destroyed us 3-0.

I suffer through the press conference, anxiously anticipating the follow-up questions about my apparent feud with Pep. I tried to clear the air and comment that Pep and I were not on bad terms, and that we had a good chat after the game.

Later on, Pep was asked about my latest comments, and he said the following.

The fact that he is trying to backtrack now says everything you need to know about him. He has been utterly unprofessional and I'm not at all interested in trying to get in his good books.

So now I'm locked in a bitter feud with Pep Guardiola. This is not how I imagined starting my day.
