To me, Football Manager is an RPG. Posted: 28 Nov 2019 07:38 PM PST Noticed that Hannover starts the game without a manager so I decided that was going to be my first save, a friend of mine who thinks himself better than me at fm said he would start as the same club as I and we would see who did better and I noticed that he used his actual name and age and languages spoken etc. As manager and I used all the details of Robert Enke, ex Hannover player who commited suicide many years ago as a tribute to him, I remembered him distinctly because when I was a child I just could not understand why a footballer would be sad enough to kill himself, to me it was the ultimate dream, playing football for a living but I guess depression spares nobody....anyways, getting to the point, I realised that I'm the only one amongst my friends who does this, I have never ever used my name or actual age, I always try and find a retired player or sometimes even an artist I like that was from the city the club originates from for instance on FM19 I did a save with Nurnberg and used Albrecht Dürer (a famous painter from nuremberg) as the character I was going to use. Lol my friends say that's wierd but to me it adds a bit of realism to the game, I like the character to have some backstory about why he is at the club, I even went as far as to give him high attributes for GI coaching because he was a goalkeeper IRL, for Albrecht Durer I gave him highest points on technical and mental since he was an artist's and they tend very creative and technically proficient, I like to have the stats reflect the character. Sent to penalties where we have 3 opportunities to win it and bottle it every time, when my youth fullback steps up and sends us through 14-13 on pens.
