The Transfer Market gets me down sometimes

    Posted: 06 Sep 2019 01:24 PM PDT

Alright, so I buy myself a nice young central defender, and he's great. Everything is fine. Too fine. So PSG turn up, offering me 90 mil for him. I'm tempted, but i refuse. I like the kid, and hey, I've treated him like a god. We've just won the CL. Maybe he'll be happy to stay.

No. The ungrateful little dutch shit comes barging into my office, getting his clogs in a twist and demanding to be allowed to go. Fine. Fuck you then. I'll sell you if they make another 90 mil offer. They do. I accept.

The little shit turns them down. I guess they didn't offer him a big enough fucking windmill or something.

He then spends the next TWO FUCKING YEARS bitching about wanting to leave. In this time, I win the EPL twice, but apparently I'm too small time for the tulip-fancying diva. In this time, I get offers from Real Madrid, Barca, and PSG, ranging from an insulting 22 mil to about 70. We agreed to let him go for 90, so at least he doesn't burst his dykes every time I tell them to piss off.

Well, finally I have to let him go when PSG offer me 93 mil. It's fine. I'm ready now. I've been scouting defenders for ages. I make an offer for a dude valued at 65 mil. A little worse than what I had, but he'll fit in and do the job well enough.

Offer rejected. They'd like 125 mil. The greedy bastards.

Ok fine. I can haggle. We'll go up to 80 mil. I need this guy.

Offer rejected. How about 135 mil? No. No, that isn't how haggling works.

Alright fine. I see how it is. 93 mil. Take it. Take it all. I feel filthy, but for gods sake my back line is currently being run by Shkodran fucking Mustafi. I could sign the fucking berlin wall as my first team goalkeeper, and I'm still going to be fucked. I NEED THIS GUY.

Offer rejected. We would now like a diamond-encrusted Pomeranian, carrying the still-beating heart of Amun-Ra.

Fine. I can take a hint. I'll go elsewhere.

Only, this keeps happening. All the goddamn time. Its starting to seem like my only choices are a one-legged, blind Russian peasant grandmother. Or Mustafi.

I'm hoping Babushka can get a work permit.

The game that keeps on giving. First proper stint playing FM this year having never played it before. I’ve just taken over at Birmingham in League One after starting unemployed and I’m buzzing.

Never played Football Manager (bar the mobile app in 2012 but it seemed very easy) and properly invested my time into it this year. Ditched FIFA - I'm officially a convert - and I absolutely love it. I decided to reflect my complete lack of experience of the game into my save and started unemployed with no pedigree whatsoever in football. Here's a kind-of-brief summary (and some highlights of my career so far):

    • Started unemployed and got picked up by Braintree Town. Sacked six months in after a dismal attempt to survive in the Conference National.

    • Joined Hemel Hempstead in the Conference South, picking up a fair few points toward the end of the 2018/19 season. After a consistent first full season, I managed to leapfrog 1st place on the final day (thanks to, of course, Braintree winning away) and won my first - and, so far, only 😂 - championship! Also won MOTY.

    • Signed Victor Fundi ahead of my 2020/21 season in the Conference National where I was tasked with "fight bravely against relegation". I steered them to a 17th place finish with Fundi scoring 26 goals in the league, taking home the top scorer award. Repeated the feat in the 2021/22 season, earning less points but finishing 14th. Nominated for MOTY in both seasons.

    • Had a row with the board in the 2022/23 season over transfer budget, leaked to the press and got sacked. Hemel fans outraged. Took over at Tranmere for the rest of the season and resigned because the squad was full of bottlejobs.

    • Took over at Altrincham for the 23/24 season, accidentally dropping down a division to the Conference North. Had an average season before, in my second full season in charge, I romped to the top of the table by not losing in my first 15 games. Newport County - League Two - offered me a job and I jumped at the chance to manage in the Football League. Still won MOTY for Conference North, despite managing only 23 games.

    • When I took over midway through the 2024/25 season, Newport were 19th. I guided them to 8th place, missing out on the play offs by a point on the final day. Unfortunately, I repeated this the following season. Favourite moment of the 25/26 season was bringing Victor Fundi back to English football on a free and him score the winner on his debut. He went on to average a goal every other game.

    • 26/27 season, dismal. Got sacked by Newport half way through the season before joining Bury for the last seven games. Once again, I missed out on the play offs by a point on the final day.

    • 27/28, first full season in charge of Bury. Notts County stormed the league (they got 117 points I think). Final day, I was 5th, level on points with 3rd and 4th. Stevenage were in 2nd, a point ahead. Remarkably, Forest Green and Plymouth - 3rd and 4th - we're playing each other and drew nil nil. Stevenage lost and I won! Promoted as runners up! My other huge milestone! Nominated for MOTY.

    • 28/29. Strong start to the new season. Expected to be involved in a relegation battle but was 6th with 23 games played! Then my team began to lose game after game before I finished in 19th. Board are pleased, but Birmingham came calling and I'm happy to finally be at a club that is considered "big" in some circles. My hard work is finally paying off!

Sorry it's not a huge success story, but I'm super proud of my progress on this game. I'm not stopping until a UCL win!

Annual update on Herman "The Golden Boy" Maragh ,his improvement from last year is amazing,he's been crucial for me getting back to back promoted. Even bigger teams are coming in for him,but luckily he doesn't fuss up about me keeping him here.
