January 2020, fighting for 7th place in the Prem, about to play CL knockout match against Napoli (Extremely lucky first season). Schmeichel out for a few months. Who else to be the saviour other than San Iker?

To preface this I am still pretty new to this game. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to maximize the development of my young high potential players?

    Making a Club Legend

    Posted: 09 Sep 2019 06:23 AM PDT

The game obviously has criteria for determining a club legend. But we all know the game can't make those exceptions that allow obscure players forgotten elsewhere to live on in fan's hearts long after they depart. Sometimes, there is a performance so legendary that for years and decades, we still talk about the time ______ did that thing (____) to win against _____. No matter what club you support IRL, you know (and irrationally love) a couple of guys that other fans bases think crazy. But those guys _performed at a key moment or delivered some timely bit of magic...and thus live on in memory.

Well, I was thinking about this after a 22-year old regen (Christopher Ekaya, if you need a name) was pressed into service during a pre-season friendly with a full team of youth players, away to Barcelona. The stupid manager (me) scheduled too many friendlies and the senior squad was fully fit and ready to play a game-that-counts three days later. So they all sat. And in came 10 half-star or grey-star puppies, not a single one above 18. And Ekaya. Who had diligently worked his way through the youth setup and was poised to be the (homegrown) backup keeper (to a world-class keeper, so...no chance of taking the job).

Ekaya stopped 47 shots. And two penalties. It was an epic performance. A 0-0 tie, in a preseason friendly, AWAY TO BARCELONA. Who played (old man) Messi and most of their A team. Also, he didn't win POTM because no goal keeper ever wins POTM, even after they stonewall Barcelona at Camp Nou with a team filled with scrubs.

This guy is going to be my backup keeper forever. I will never forget that night at Camp Nou where he was the greatest goalie who ever lived. And if it happened IRL, fans would worship him as a cult figure. Club legend, for one pre-season friendly performance.
