One of the most dramatic final days in EPL history, action by action (2038/39)

    Posted: 10 Aug 2019 12:20 PM PDT

Merely an hour ago I posted a screen of the EPL table after matchday 37, but the drama that happened on the last matchday deserves separate post imo with a story (hopefully mods won't see it as spamming). Also just to clarify, I don't manage any of the teams (I'm currently in Real Sociedad), and haven't played in England this save -> Fulham's rise was all AI.

    Situation before the last matchday

With one game to go, Fulham was really close to securing their first EPL title in history after they managed to jump Arsenal and Man United on matchday 37, when Arsenal lost to Man City, while Fulham beat Man United. They were sitting in the first place, 2 points ahead of Arsenal and Tottenham. Man United were 4th, 3 points behind Fulham, but with better goal difference, so they still had theoretical chance of winning the title. Man City were 5th, 5 points behind Fulham, but due to packed schedule, they had one game in hand against already relegated West Brom, which is unusually played on the Wednesday after the final matchday (so technically it isn't final matchday, but I don't want to complicate things even more).

Position Team Games Played Goals For Goals Against Goal Difference Points
    1 Fulham 37 69 38 +31 71
    2 Arsenal 37 71 43 +28 69
    3 Tottenham 37 60 38 +22 69
    4 Man United 37 73 38 +35 68
    5 Man City 36 63 34 +29 66

It also has to be said, that Fulham knocked both Man United and Man City out of Champions League in quarterfinals and semifinals respectively. Both Manchester teams are also dominating in EPL, since 2017/18 only 3 times was the EPL won by a team outside of Manchester (Liverpool in 2023/24 and 2029/30, Tottenham in 2027/28) + 13 times since 2017/18 were both Manchester teams in top 2. Arsenal had the chance to win the title last season, but on the last day they only won 3-2 against Fulham, while Man City won 4-0 against West Ham and won the title on GD by 2 goals.

    Sunday 8th May 2039, 16.00 - The drama begins

It's 4 o'clock in the afternoon and all games kicked-off. Fixtures are following.

Fulham (1st) vs. Aston Villa (17th - technically can still be relegated)

    Burnley (9th) vs. Arsenal (2nd)

Tottenham (3rd) vs. Liverpool (6th - fighting for the 6th place with Everton on distance)

West Ham (13th) vs. Man United (4th)

Man City (5th) vs. Chelsea (10th)

2' - Spurs take the lead against Liverpool (1-0) and jump Arsenal to 2nd place, being behind Fulham on GD.

5' - Arsenal concede against Burnley (0-1), meaning they drop to 4th behind Man United on GD. At the same time left back from Man City sees straight red against Chelsea (still 0-0).

10' - Man United take the lead against West Ham, but they remain 3rd, one point behind Fulham and Spurs.

14' - Arsenal scored to make it 1-1, they remain 4th.

19' - With a quick second goal Arsenal take the lead in Burnley, jumping Man United and Spurs back to 2nd place. As things stand, there are 3 teams on 72 points, Fulham with the best GD in 1st, but only +2 better than Arsenal.

24' - Man City score against Chelsea (1-0). Doesn't impact the table, but they cut the difference to 1st place to 3 points. With one game in hand they could still win the title if things end like this.

25' - Shock in southwestern London as Fulham concede against Aston Villa (0-1) and drop from 1st to 4th place. With Man City's one game left, they're seriously threatened to not even finish in top 4. Meanwhile Arsenal take the lead in the standings.

35' - Arsenal make it 3-1 (they're still 1st), but Man United concede against West Ham (1-1), what puts them back to 4th place behind Fulham.

    39' - Arsenal concede a goal (3-2), doesn't impact standings.

41' - Liverpool equalized from the penalty against Spurs (1-1), Spurs drop back to 3rd, Fulham moves up to 2nd.

42' - But not for long. Man United take the lead again (2-1) and jump to 2nd.

    HALF-TIME

45 minutes are gone. Finally we have 15 minutes to absorb what's happening and how the table looks after the first half.

Position Team (HT result) Games Played Goals For Goals Against Goal Difference Points
    1 Arsenal (3-2) 38 74 45 +29 72
    2 Man United (2-1) 38 75 39 +36 71
    3 Fulham (0-1) 38 69 39 +30 71
    4 Tottenham (1-1) 38 61 39 +22 70
    5 Man City (1-0) 37 64 34 +30 69

    46' - 2nd half begins.

    47' - Man United score 3rd goal (3-1), they remain 2nd.

53' - Man City double their lead against Chelsea (2-0). They remain 5th, but the GD can be really important for them.

    56' - Man United concede (3-2), standings don't change.

58' - Spurs concede 2nd goal against Liverpool (1-2), dropping to 5th behind Man City.

67' - Fulham's Fausto Dadic, who's played almost 300 games for them, scores and makes it 1-1. This goal puts Fulham back to 1st, but only by GD (+31 to Arsenal's +29).

68' - The joy didn't last long. Fulham concede straight from kick-off (1-2) and drop back to 3rd place behind Arsenal and Man United.

70' - Man City make it 3-0 from penalty spot. Right now they're 4th, 3 points behind 1st Arsenal, but with that one game in hand and already better GD.

71' - Spurs equalize (2-2), they jump Man City back to 4th. This goals also means that Liverpool's city rival, Everton, jump Liverpool to 6th place.

81' - Fulham equalize once again (2-2) and they take the 1st place back. If they'll score one more in the remaining 10 minutes, they'll be champions, otherwise they have to hope for a miracle, that City will lose on Wednesday against West Brom, as City are currently 3 points behind Fulham, but with better GD. Arsenal drop to 2nd, Man United to 3rd.

86' - Shocker in Burnley, as the hosts come back with the 3rd goal to make it 3-3 against Arsenal, with only their 3rd shot on target. Arsenal drop to 3rd, they'd have to score 3 goals to get back to 1st place.

87' - Fulham hit the crossbar (I was actually watching the game), Aston Villa had a counter, but their striker missed 1-on-1 against Fulham's goalie.

    FINAL WHISTLE

It's over. But actually it's not. Fulham is 1st, Man United 2nd, Arsenal 3rd, Spurs 4th and Man City 5th. However, since Fulham only drew their game, Man City are only 3 points behind them and with better GD already (Fulham +31, Man City +32). So if City wins against relegated West Brom even only 1-0, they'll be champions again. Last year they ''stole'' the title on the last matchday, this year they can steal it even later.

Position Team (FT result) Games Played Goals For Goals Against Goal Difference Points
    1 Fulham (2-2) 38 71 40 +31 72
    2 Man United (3-2) 38 76 40 +36 71
    3 Arsenal (3-3) 38 74 46 +28 70
    4 Tottenham (2-2) 38 62 40 +22 70
    5 Man City (3-0) 37 66 34 +32 69

Also, Everton in the end finished 6th in front of Liverpool and secured EL next season, leaving Liverpool with no European football next season, since 14th Wolves won the League Cup and took the EL spot.

I'll be watching Man City's game against West Brom and will edit the post with the final result and standings.

EDIT: Miracle didn't happen, City won easily 3-0 (West Brom had only 1 shot the whole game) and jumped from 5th to 1st, to win their 3rd title in a row, second year in a row only by better goal difference (and the year before they won it by 1 point). Final standings.

EDIT 2: Fulham ''at least'' won the Champions League, after they beat Barca 2-0 in the final

Season 2038/39, matchday 37 - Fulham beat Man United away, while Arsenal lost against City at home. With one game left against 17th Aston Villa (at home), they're really close to their first PL title and also only 2nd title for London clubs in general in the last 20 years

    Slovakian Lower Division

    Posted: 10 Aug 2019 06:29 PM PDT

Finally got FM and decided to play a Journeyman so that i can jump head first into how to play the game (foolish I know), Started at a Austrian Semi-pro team called Black Stars Basels that was in serious debt, Junped ship to another team when i realised i couldn't inprove anything, Went to a Slovakian Lower division team called MFK Topvar Topolcany, Didn't read the rules before joining and turns out there's 66 games a season, That's a game every 3 days, Almost every single team is Knackered, Injured, Using terrible players, Even though this is torture, It's so fun
