You get a penalty, your penalty taker steps up and misses, and it's a terrible pen........

Even if you're comfortably winning, the frustration kicks in and I sub him off instantly, is it just me or do other people do this?

Serie A transfer AI keeps wasting their budget on declining >33yo players

    Posted: 18 Apr 2019 10:14 AM PDT

I'm in 2032/33 in my Parma save, and something I've noticed especially in the last 5 in-game seasons, is how totally absurd AI transfer activity is for certain teams and leagues.

The finances are still there, but for whatever reason, Serie A teams in particular insist on blowing their entire budget on 33yo+ players and then supplementing this with a few loaned in players. The order of operations is usually one of their few good under 30yo players gets bought. They proceed to replace them with an over 33 year old player, or a loan player.

Juventus have bought 5x 33y players in the last 2 seasons, spending an average of 30m (USD$) and giving them 200k pw 2+ year contracts. These players are barely good enough for first team as it is, and there are plenty of better EU options on the transfer list for lower wages. Obviously, they get about 1 decent season out of these players before they drop them to reserves where they see out their remainder of their contracts. Repeat.

Serie A has totally collapsed in European competitiveness because of this. Juventus are a lower mid table team. Aside from Milan usually placing somewhere in top 6, the teams who qualify for CL and EL are random each year. This results in them getting low seeding due to poor coefficients. The smaller teams don't upgrade their teams to meet CL needs, therefore they fall to lower half of table next season, being replaced by someone else. Last season it was Bologna and Lazio. this season it's Milan and Udinese (There are only 3 CL slots in Serie A now).

I'm seriously considering taking over as manager during transfer windows, or using FMRTE to bring some resemblance of squad building to some of the teams. A related issue to this is other big leagues buying Serie A players after the Italian transfer window has closed in mid august / mid January. Leaving AI unable to replace players.

The second big issue has already been discussed to death. In the other 4 big leagues, all of the big clubs just buy regardless of need. The two most egregious instances I noticed this transfer window.

PSG: They bought my superstar RB for 105m despite not needing him at all. Thats fine, he was younger than their starter with potential to grow and already as good. The NEXT season. They make a bunch of bids for and start to unsettle my other RB. Now I've had to make him a promise to accept any bids of 60m or more. PSG have 3 star/world class right backs at this point. This would be their 4th.

Chelsea: Last season, spent 109m on a 22yo world class striker. Proceeded to play him in 4 games in his role as 4th choice striker. He is now on the loan list in their under23s.

This kid has scored over 50 goals in one season playing for my youth/reserve teams. Shame he only has two star potential!

For media description elite “position” vs world class, which is better?
