You Can't Win Anything With Kids - Alan Hansen

You Can't Win Anything With Kids - Alan Hansen

The immortal words uttered in 1995 on MotD by Alan Hansen, the year United went on to win the League and FA Cup double. This, combined with Barcelona's psuedo-legendary side of November 2012, when all 11 players on the pitch came through La Masia, I wanted to combine these two, and create a formidable squad of local kids. This is where it begins, my journey to Champions League glory, using only local kids.

    The Challenge:

Primary: Win the Champions League, using only players who have graduated from the youth academy, with an average age of 25 or younger.

Secondary: Win the Primeira Liga, Taca de Portugal, Taca de Liga, and Club World Cup with the same parameters as above.

    Enter the club, [Angrense](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.C._Angrense):

Sport Clube Angrense (also abbreviated as S.C. Angrense) is a multi-disciplinary sports club, located in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo, on the island of Terceira, in the Portuguese archipelago of the Azores.

The origins of the Sport Club have their origin in the beginning of the 20th century, when its football players first played with a ball that arrived from England, in the fields of Relvão, alongside the Bay of Angra near the walls of the Fort of São João Baptista). The first teams that developed in Terceira were unorganized, but slowly developed into a formal union of teams, leading to the creation of the Associação de Foot-Ball de Angra do Heroísmo on 4 August 1921. At that time the União Desportiva dos Empregados do Comércio (Sporting Union of Commercial Workers), one of the oldest football clubs on Terceira, that would form the nucleus of Sport Club Angrense. In the beginning this group only accepted enthusiasts linked with commerce, but later accepted a series of players who had difficulty in being recruited by other teams.

The growth in the interest in organized football increased markedly, resulting in the construction of the Campo de Jogos de Angra do Heroísmo (Angra do Heroísmo Game Field), inaugurated on 24 June 1924.

But, due to disagreements on the direction of the club, the Commercial Workers Union was dissolved, resulting in the appearance of several new teams, that included Club Desportivo Angrense (Angrense Sports Club), known locally as Os Caveiras (the skulls), and Sporting Club da Terceira

So why, Mr Alibi, did you choose Angrense? Good question, and frankly, it was the name, or more specifically, the name of the town where the club are based. *Angra do Heroísmo*, the Cove of Heroism. How wonderful does that sound, and further we all cheer our heroes, local heroes more so, so it felt appropriate. A love of Portugal, and a desire to remain in Portugal, while starting at the bottom all factored in too.

    The Rules:

    • No purchasing players in.
    • No free transfers of players in.
    • No loans in.

    • N.B. This does not include the players bought in at the start of the game, by the AI. I couldn't remove them without using the editor, and I felt that would create doubt about the whole save

Apologies that these screenshots have been taken mid-October, I didn't think to start the post until I had played for a while, but wanted to include them.

I plan to update this every season, if there's a desire to see this nonsense. I'm going to enjoy this save, and thought I'd share the progress with you guys, as I thought you might like it too. Anything you want to see, give a shout, and I'll do my best.

Not the best time to ask for a raise, is it?

Absolutely devastated, but I love this game!

I am managing Leo FC in Gibraltar. Current season is 2032/33. We got through to the second knockout stages of Europa League and astonishingly won Arsenal 4-0 at home. Going to the second leg with optimisticly high spirits, I decided not to change the tactics too much.

First half of the match went very well, we had many scoring opportunities, but we weren't able to convert them into goals. 10 minutes in to the second half we get a penalty and at this moment I was sure we would go through. We missed the penalty. Everything went downhill from there,

5 minutes after the penalty Arsenal scored 2 goals and my goalkeeper got injured. My semi-decent backup goalkeeper had injured himself in training a few days before the game so I had to bring in a goalkeeper from my youth squad. This is when I began panicking a bit. We got a few decent chances to score, but Arsenal's goalkeeper was on fire saving every shot we threw at him. At 80 minutes we were looking pretty good, which gave me great hope. I made a few tactical changes and set our mentality to very defensive. Arsenal scored at '88 making the score 3-0. Full 90 minutes were up and ref gave 3 minutes of added time. At exactly 93 minutes Arsenal were rewarded with a penalty, and they scored.

We went to extra time and almost all of my players' fitness levels were on the red and I had no subs remaining. On extra time Arsenal piled up our misery and scored 4 more goals. We lost the game 8-0 and ended up losing 4-8 on aggregate.

I was devastated. I felt violated. I saved the game, closed it and went for a smoke outside. Rain was pouring down heavily as I was trying to gather my thoughts. Eventually I went back inside and came here to write about what had happened.

Writing this made me realise how amazing football manager and football in general are. Like Evra, I burst out laughing and said "I love this game!". Felt like a happy maniac. However, I am going to take a break again from Football Manager for a while. My heart isn't ready for another emotional rollercoaster such as this one. lol
